I am a stay-at-home wife and mother (who hardly stays at home) to my wonderful husband Tony and our three children, all who have various special needs. All three of our children have come to our family through the miracle of adoption.
Our oldest, Caleb, is 9 years old and, over the years, has had a variety of diagnoses. His most recent diagnosis, and what we feel is the most accurate, is Childhood Disintegrative Disorder with Adjustment Disorder and Mild Mental Retardation. Caleb also suffers from Sensory Processing Disorder and has anxiety, OCD tendencies. Caleb's original diagnosis was bipolar disorder. There is some question as to whether the bipolar disorder diagnosis still fits or if his mood swings are part of the CDD. Childhood Disintegrative Disorder is part of the Autism Spectrum.
Our middle child, Cassidy, is 7 years old. Her diagnosis of Oppositional Defiant Disorder and Disruptive Behavior Disorder. Our hope and prayer is that the therapy that we are going through at this time will help us overcome these issues.
Our youngest, who is 17 months old, we are still waiting to finalize his adoption, but it should done be within the next three months (hopefully much sooner!!!). He has some developmental delays and receives early intervention services as well as weekly physical therapy. It is possible that he may receive a cerebral palsy diagnosis when we go to the developmental pediatrician in October for his reevaluation.
